A LITTLE LIFE UPDATE

O tome vise rijeci uskoro. Krenimo ispocetka. 🙂

Zivot s profesionalnim sportasem i selidbe idu ruku pod ruku.

U strogom centru grada, u pjesackoj zoni, u zgradi staroj vise od 150 godina, nasli smo svoj kutak svemira kojeg sada nazivamo domom. Zamislite duple prozore, debele, neravne zidove, visoke stropove, lukove i stupove.

Ever since I was a student, September has been a month of new beginnings for me. Not January, like for most people, but September. I still feel that way, mostly because sports season begins in September and ends in June, so in between these months our lives are really intense, before we have a month or two to relax and set goals for the new year. I honestly believe that magic happens when we step out of our comfort zones. Last month I boldly stepped out of every zone I know so now I’m kind of starting to feel some of that magic dust being thrown at me. Yay! But let’s start from the beginning. 🙂

We moved. Again. Life with a professional athlete and moving in and out all the time go hand in hand. The sooner you accept that as a part of the process, the better for you. Now I see this whole thing as a kind of a catharsis and a wonderful challenge. After Germany and France, life brought us to Celje. Although it’s not our first time here, I think only now I’m starting to familiarize with it and see how interesting and beautiful it is and all sorts of things it has to offer.

In the heart of the city, in the pedestrian zone, in a 150-year-old building, we’ve found a small piece of universe which we can now call home. Double windows, thick walls, high ceilings, arches, columns and echoing hallways will throw you back in distant, somewhat classier times. The whole place has just been refurbished, which means that everything,  from top to bottom, is brand new. As I said, the location is amazing so the decision to buy it was a no-brainer.

For two years we were literally inseparable. When you live abroad, there are no grandparents who can look after your kids when you have somewhere to go to or you just want to take a break. We were together 24/7 and everywhere I went, I took her with me. Three weeks ago, Kiara started nursery and I admit, I took it harder than her. There were tears, yes, but she adapted much better than expected. I, however, miss her during the day and find it hard not to know what she is doing every moment of the day, how many times she smiled, what’s her favourite activity that day and whether she pronounced a new word. Every morning, after I leave her, soul-searching begins and I seriously think about life on a farm, a bunch of kids around the table, homeschooling and stuff. On the other hand, I feel more productive and see how this decision was good for the whole family.

And what’s going on with you?

#WEEKENDCOFFEESHARE 2

If we were having coffee…

I would tell you a story about a young guy who came to the beach one day after the storm and saw hundreds of thousands of starfish on the shore. There was also an old man who was trying to save them by picking them up and throwing them back into the sea as fast as he could. But there were so many of them that it was impossible for him to save them all! So the young guy came to the old man and said: “What are you doing, old man? Can’t you see that you’re wasting your time? You are never going to save them all, it doesn’t make any sense, it doesn’t make any difference!” And the old man said: “It does to the ones I save.”

If we were having coffee, I would tell you to ask yourself what little things you can do today to make a positive impact on the world that we live in. We were born to make the world a better and more joyful place than it was before us and people around us happier. We didn’t come here to get a job, pay bills and spend our lives waiting for Friday, summer or better days. We came here to lead meaningful lives, to make a positive change, raise awareness and be used for the greater good. To be of use. If we were having coffee, I would tell you to never underestimate the power of “little people” like you and me and that every little thing counts, no matter how small. Like leaving your car at home once a week and walking or riding a bike instead. Like eating less animal products, at least one day a week (Meatless Mondays 😊). Did you know that food industry, especially meat industry, is the number one cause of pollution and climate changes in the world? It is literally destroying our planet and very little people are aware of it. For example, not eating a pound of meat saves more water than not showering for six months. Imagine how much you would do for the planet if you ate less meat! Like taking a garbage bag and a pair of gloves and picking up the trash in a public place, like a park or a beach. Like organising a charity or gathering a group of people who would collect money or donations for people in need on a monthly basis. Like donating books that you don’t want to your local library. Like going to a retirement home and talking to people there, reading them books or playing chess with them. We are more powerful than we know and the world needs us. Our communities are counting on us and there is no more time for ignorance. So what are you going to do today to change the world?

HAPPY WEEKEND

I’ve read that most people spend their weekends watching TV, shopping, worrying about not having money and dreading the week ahead. I’m not surprised, because not so long ago, I was one of those people. At one point in my life I was doing three jobs, I had no days off, I was really depressed, living in a vicious circle, ruining my health, my relationships and not enjoying my life at all. That’s how I learned (the hard way) the importance of taking at least one day off and dedicating it to yourself, your mental and physical health, your family, friends and generally people and things you love. So I decided to write weekend posts on how you can spend your weekend. Most ideas will be totally free or inexpensive, but powerful and life changing. They changed mine. Really, guys, it’s the little things in life. I hope you get inspired. ❤

This weekend you should really…

  • Wake up before everybody else, make a yummy breakfast, set the table (napkins, flowers, nice plates and cups) and enjoy the happy faces of your loved ones while you’re enjoying delicious food. I promise you, it’s my favourite thing in the world. Plus, you will be the hero of the day and I guarantee, when you start your morning like this, you will set the tone for the rest of the day and it’s going to be the best ever.  Click here for a breakfast idea.
  • Hit the road. Seriously. Pack up some food, a camera, a blanket and a ball and go somewhere you’ve never been before. A near-by village, a forest, a park, a beach… Leave all your worries and your watch at home and just be, breathe, lie on the grass, walk barefoot, laugh and take a lot of pictures. Try to capture the most random moments, genuine smiles and happy faces.
  • Think of somebody you haven’t heard from in a while, somebody that you miss. Maybe somebody you had a fight with. Be the bigger person and forget the disagreement. Call them or send them a message to let them know you are thinking about them. But even if you don’t get the reaction you expected, be fine with it and feel good about yourself, because the first step is the hardest and it takes a lot of courage to make it.

Happy weekend!

To me potaknulo da započnem seriju vikend-postova u kojima ću vam davati ideje kako kvalitetno provesti slobodno vrijeme.

Obliznje selo, suma, park, plaza… Sve brige i sat ostavite kod kuće i jednostavno bivajte, disite, lezite na travi, hodajte bosi, smijte se i puno fotografirajte. Pokusajte uhvatiti spontane trenutke, iskrene osmjehe i sretna lica i neka vas te fotografije cijeli tjedan griju – do sljedećeg vikenda.
  • Sjetite se nekoga koga dugo niste čuli, nekoga tko vam nedostaje. Mozda nekoga s kime ste se posvadili. Budite zreliji i pametniji i prijedjite preko svega.

Uzivajte u vikendu!

Fée
