IN THE MEANTIME…

I wrote a post on my favourite products some time ago and I was thinking about doing it on a weekly or monthly basis, but since I’m not really a beauty or a fashion blogger who buys tons of products every month, I decided to do it when I feel like I have something interesting to share with you. So here it is; the list of things I’m loving at the moment, and two products that I’m not too crazy about.

 

I’ve always loved Beyonce, her work and her amazing voice, but I’ve never been her biggest fan or seen her in concert (which I regret). And to be honest, I probably wouldn’t have rushed to hear/see the new album hadn’t it caused such a stir in the media. The first time I was watching it, I was so mesmerised and moved, I cried the whole way through and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. This album is pure art, shocking, uncomfortable and revealing, just like a work of art should be. Every second of it and every detail was thought through and has its purpose and meaning. For example, at the beginning of the reconciliation song “Sandcastles” video, there is a shot of a kintsugi bowl. Kintsugi is a Japanese art of repairing ceramics with precious metals to demonstrate that broken things can be made whole and even more beautiful than before. Also, people she collaborated with are fascinating, like Warsan Shire, a young Somali-British poet who wrote and adapted the interludes between the songs, and a Nigerian-born, Brooklyn-based artist Laolu Senbanjo who designed the intricate body artwork. It’s a pity that the media got so crazy about “Becky with the good hair” when clearly, it’s not the only thing the album is about. Womanhood, motherhood, family, gender roles, father figure and above all, blackness. As a non-American and white, I don’t think I can fully comprehend the message, nor am I supposed to. I’m supposed to see it and respect it. And I do respect it, I’m in awe of it, I cheer it and salute it. When it comes to the subject of marriage, cheating and being hurt, I love how raw and real she is, without trying to explain anything to anyone. Except herself. That’s what you do in a betrayal: you have to explain it to yourself. When you’re hurt and you suffer, it’s hard to see things, but she laid everything so clearly, like a map. And the femaleness, the imagery, the blood-red lights, the costumes, the doorways and walls… The visual aspects of Lemonade are incredible. In my opinion, this is her best and most important album ever. I feel like Beyoncé has matured and become relevant on a whole new level and all she is supposed to be: strong, powerful, unapologetic and black.

I’m sure you all know that acai is one of the healthiest berries you can find. Full of antioxidants, it’s immune-stimulating and energy-boosting, it helps with weight loss and digestion, promotes skin health, reduces irritation, improves mental function and so on. Basically, it’s amazing and delicious. You can get dried acai berries in almost any supermarket, but I prefer acai powder which I mix into my smoothies or banana ice-cream or make an acai bowl with bananas, chia seeds and nuts. We all love it so much and it’s been our favourite breakfast lately. Would you like to see some breakfast ideas in one of my future posts?

I have to admit, I’m not really into this dark-lip trend that everybody has been obsessed with lately. I’m a nude-lip kind of girl so you won’t find any crazy colors in my make-up bag. A month or so ago I bought a MAC lipstick in color “Faux”, which is a nice pinkish color. I would say it’s a dull pink color, almost nude, perfect for every day, for office or school, but also for a night out when you want to play down on your lip color. I really love it and I wear it with this lip pencil. The perfect couple.

I’ve heard so many good reviews on Marc Jacobs make-up that I had to try it so I decided to start with nail polishes. “Rita” looks like a perfect dark-red color, really rich and warm, wonderful for wearing throughout the year. The bottle is also really nice, the brush is perfect, it covers the whole surface of the nail and it dries really quickly. However, this is where my love for this product stops. It never lasts more than one day, regardless of how many coats I apply. Yes, I have a toddler and I’m pretty active around the house so my hands are constantly wet, but I always use gloves. With the price of around 20 euros, I wouldn’t say that it is pricey, but I think you can buy much better nail products for half the price.

My dry skin loves this product very much and it helped me survive the winter without going crazy. So yes, this cream is amazing, hydrating, not too greasy, not too heavy, but squeezing it out through the tiniest hole you’ve ever seen can be really frustrating, especially if you’re in a hurry. However, there is the same product packed in a jar, so I would definitely recommend you get that one instead of the bottle.

Prije nekolilo sam mjeseci pisala o svojim omiljenim proizvodima te sam imala namjeru objavljivati takve postove na tjednoj ili mjesecnoj bazi, no s obzirom da nisam beauty ili modni bloger koji stalno kupuje ogromne kolicine proizvoda, odlucila sam objavljivati ovakve postove kad budem zeljela nesto zanimljivo s vama podijeliti. Za danas sam vam pripremila popis proizvoda u kojima trenutno uzivam te dva s kojima nisam previse odusevljena.

Beyoncé je oduvijek bila jedan od meni omiljenih glazbenih umjetnika zbog svojih nevjerojatnih glasovnih mogucnosti, no nikada nisam bila njezin najveci obozavatelj, niti sam bila na njenom koncertu (zbog cega iskreno zalim). I vjerojatno ne bih pozurila s preslusavanjem i gledanjem novog albuma da nije podigao toliko prasine u medijima i na drustvenim mrezama. Rijetko mi se dogodi da se zaljubim u neku pjesmu ili album na prvo slusanje, no s ovim se albumom dogodilo upravo to. Beyoncé me uspjela duboko dirnuti i toliko opcarati da danima nisam mogla prestati razmisljati o pjesmama, gutati kritike i razlicite interpretacije. Ovaj je album cista umjetnost, a umjetnost katkad zna biti sokantna, neugodna i previse otvorena. Svaki je detalj na ovome albumu jako dobro promisljen te ima svoju svrhu i znacenje. Primjerice, na pocetku videa za pjesmu “Sandcastles” koja govori o pomirenju, vidi se keramicka posuda restaurirana japanskom kintsugi tehnikom, prema kojoj se slomljeni keramicki predmeti popravljaju s pomocu plemenitih metala, cime postaju jos ljepsi negoli prije ostecenja. Ljudi koji su radili na ovom albumu takodjer su fascinantni, poput Warsan Shire, mlade pjesnikinje somalijskog porijekla koja je napisala recitirane interludije izmedju pjesama, te Nigerijca Laola Senbanja, umjetnika koji je osmislio i oslikao tijela glumaca. Prava je steta sto su mediji toliko pozornosti posvetili prici oko prevare i bracnih problema, jer to nije najvaznija tema ovog albuma. Uloga i polozaj zene, majcinstvo, obitelj, razlike u spolovima, ocinska figura i povrh svega, polozaj crnaca. To su teme i poruke koje ja kao bjelkinja i ne-Amerikanka necu nikada moci do kraja razumjeti, ali to se od mene niti ne ocekuje. Od nas se ocekuje da je prihvatimo i postujemo. A ja je postujem, divim joj se i pozdravljam je. O temi braka, prevare i povrijedjenosti, Beyoncé govori otvoreno, bez imalo skrivanja ili uljepsavanja, bez teznje da ikome ista objasnjava. Osim sebi. Kad covjek pati, tesko mu je trezveno razmisljati i jasno vidjeti situaciju u kojoj se nalazi. No Beyoncé ju je opisala detaljno i precizno, kao da crta kartu svijeta. A njena zenstvenost, kostimi, vrata, napuknuti zidovi, krvavocrvena svjetlost… Vizualni aspekt albuma je nevjerojatan. Po mojem misljenju, ovo je najbolji i najvazniji Beyoncéin album dosad. Osjecam da je sazrela i dostigla jedan potpuno novi nivo u svakom pogledu. Postala je ono zbog cega se rodila: snazna i mocna crnkinja koja nikome ne duguje nista.

Sigurna sam da je acai svima poznata kao jedna od najzdravijih vrsta bobicastog voca. Puna je antioksidansa, podize imunitet i razinu energije, potice gubitak kilograma, probavu, zdravlje koze i rad mozga. Danas u gotovo svakom supermarketu mozete kupiti susene acai bobice, no ja vise volim prah koji umijesam u smoothije ili u sladoled od banana na koji potom dodam voce, chia sjemenke i orasaste plodove. Nevjerojatno zdrav i zasitan obrok. Uskoro ocekujte post s nekoliko prijedloga za zdravi dorucak.

Priznajem, ne svidjaju mi se tamni ruzevi za usne koji su u posljednje vrijeme toliko popularni. Ja vise volim njezne, neutralne, roze i nude nijanse, tako da medju mojom kozmetikom necete naci nikakve lude boje. Nedavno sam kupila MAC ruz za usne u boji “Faux”. To je zagasito ruzicasta boja, odnosno malo tamnija, toplija nude nijansa, savrsena za dnevni make-up ili pak vecernji, u slucaju da zelite naglasiti oci. Otkad sam ga kupila, nosim ga svaki dan u kombinaciji s ovom olovkom.

Nema blogerice koja nije nahvalila Marc Jacobs kozmetiku, stoga sam je i ja odlucila isprobati. Za pocetak sam kupila lak za nokte u boji “Rita”. To je ona divna tamnocrvena, topla, bogata boja prezrele tresnje, koja tako savrseno pristaje u svako doba godine. Bocica je divnog jajolikog oblika, kist je savrsen i jednim potezom obuhvaca cijelu povrsinu nokta. Medjutim, ovdje moja ljubav prema ovom proizvodu prestaje. Koliko god slojeva stavila i cime ga god zastitila, ovaj se lak pocne ljustiti nakon samo jednog dana. Da, dosta sam aktivna, imam malo dijete i ruke su mi cesto mokre, no kod svakog doticaja s agresivnim sredstvima nosim zastitne rukavice. Cijela od oko 150 kn nije grozno visoka, ali sam sigurna da za upola manje mozete kupiti mnogo kvalitetnije lakove.

Moja suha koza obozava ovu kremu za tijelo i zahvaljujuci njoj je izdrzala dugu zimu. Ova je krema doista izvrsna, hidratizira, nije masna niti teska, njeznog je mirisa, no ambalaza je veliki nedostatak, zbog male rupice na otvoru boce kroz koju je gotovo nemoguce istisnuti kremu. Stoga preporucam da kod kupovine odaberete ovaj proizvod u posudici s poklopcem koja ce biti mnogo laksa za upotrebu.

MY TRAVEL DIARY: VIENNA

Believe it or not, this is my eighth time in Vienna. So far I’ve seen it during Christmas time, in the winter, spring and summer, I’ve already visited all must-see places in the city, but I feel like I could never get enough of it. Like I will never be done with it. As the city of music, art, architecture, history, fashion, gastronomy, technology and science, Vienna represents everything that I’m passionate about. It is very clean and organised, grandiose and adorable at the same time. Big, but not too big. Overwhelming, but not overpowering. Just perfect.

The weather is beautiful, warm and sunny, and the days are going by very fast. But I don’t care about that. We spend every waking moment outside and Kiara makes me completely focused and present in the moment. I don’t want to lose one second of our time here so I let myself get carried away by the sights, odours and sounds of the city, trying to take as much as I can and keep as many moments as I can in the little memory box inside my head and just be. Oh, how wonderful it is to watch her walk down those cobbled streets, point her little finger to horses in front of St. Stephan’s Cathedral, walk in front of the Golden Strauss in Stadtpark or eat one of the most famous cakes in the world. Travelling with kids is wonderful and I want to show her so many places in Vienna, but not all, because we will leave some of them for the next time when we come with Borut.

If you’re planning on visiting Vienna soon, especially with kids, here are some of our favourite kid-friendly places that we both fully enjoy.

Literally situated in the heart of the city, it is probably the first place tourists go to when they come to Vienna. Dominated by St. Stephen’s Cathedral, it is crowded with people and horses and surrounded by restaurants, cafes and shopping streets like Graben and Kärntner Strasse. We love to come here to see horses (Kiara’s favourite), to take a walk, light a candle in the cathedral and do some shopping.

The best coffee in town and the best place for people watching and soaking up the city vibes, which is, honestly, my favourite activity. This is more than just a coffee shop. It is “Austria’s first address for gourmets” consisting of a fancy supermarket which offers thousands of delicacies from all over the world and an amazing restaurant on the third floor, the favourite place of the rich Viennese. If you want to buy souvenirs and you are not into fridge magnets and Mozart coffee mugs, then I suggest you come here and get the famous Viennese coffee, chocolate or tea for your loved ones.

The most beautiful park in Vienna and my personal favourite. We come here every day, because Kiara loves feeding the ducks in the lake or hanging out with other children. And I enjoy the beautiful scenery, flowers, trees, the golden statue of Johann Strauss or just sit on a bench and have coffee.

Vienna’s central and best-known market. Just like any other market, it is crowded, loud, colourful, interesting and simply amazing, but unlike many others, it is very clean. It is also very popular among young people, so if you go there at weekends, you may see DJs entertaining the crowd. I’ve also heard that there are some great restaurants which I haven’t tried, but my source is very reliable. 🙂

The Belvedere consists of two palaces built in the 18th century and an extensive garden. It is perfect if you’re coming with children, because they can run around the garden, play hide-and-seek and admire the beautiful statues and fountains. The main  attraction is hidden inside the Upper Belvedere: the work of some of the greatest artist of all time, such as Monet, van Gogh, Klimt (“The Kiss” is definitely worth seeing) and Kokoschka.

One of those places that leave you speechless and you almost want to cry. It happened to me when I was there the other day. I felt so humbled and thankful to be able to be there and see that beautiful statue and buildings surrounding it, to share that moment with my daughter… When you realise that little things are not little, when you live in the moment, moments like that move you deeply. Anyway, Maria-Theresien-Platz is a great place because it is surrounded by Natural History Museum and Art History Museum, and you can see the whole Museumquartier starting from there. The Goethe statue and the Mozart statue are also nearby.

The best Wiener schnitzel in the world. Period. But make sure to book a table a few days in advance and to try the potato salad as well. You’re welcome.

I don’t know if I like the food better or the ambiance and interior design. When I see young, stylish people hanging out on a Sunday morning, friends meeting for brunch, young parents with children enjoying their food together… Places like this make me happy. Ströck is amazing, beautiful and definitely worth the visit. When I was there the other day, I had their vegan breakfast and it was one of the best meals in my life. You should try it, even if you’re not vegan.

This place is the home of the original Sacher cake. It is very luxurious, usually very crowded and overpriced, but worth it. I mean, one cannot come to Vienna without trying the famous Sacher cake, right? You can buy the whole cake and take it home if you like and don’t worry, even though the place is fancy, it is very kid-friendly.

Good music and drinks. It is crowded almost every night, especially weekends.

Vjerovali ili ne, ovo je moj osmi posjet Beču. Dozivjela sam Bozić, zimu, proljece i jesen u Beču i posjetila sve najpoznatije znamenitosti, ali svejedno osjecam da mi jos nije dovoljno i da mi Beča nikada nece biti dosta. To je grad glazbe, likovne umjetnosti, arhitekture, povijesti, mode, gastronomije, tehnologije i znanosti te time sjedinjuje sve moje ljubavi i strasti. Vrlo je čist i organiziran, veličanstven i sladak istovremeno. Velik, ali ne prevelik. Odusevljava, ali nije nametljiv. Taman kako treba.

Vrijeme je predivno, toplo i sunčano te nam dani brzo prolaze. Ali ja ne marim za to. Svaki moguci trenutak provodimo vani i zahvaljujuci Kiari potpuno sam usredotocena i prisutna u trenutku. Ne zelim potratiti niti jednu sekundu i zato se potpuno prepustam prizorima, mirisima i zvukovima grada, pokusavajuci sto vise toga zadrzati u svojoj maloj kutijici uspomena koja se nalazi u mojoj glavi, i jednostavno bivati. Divno li je promatrati je kako korača popločenim ulicama, upire svoj prstic u konje ispred Katedrale svetog Stjepana, hoda ispred Zlatnog Straussa u Stadtparku i jede jednu od najpoznatijih torti na svijetu. Divno je putovati s djecom. Zelim joj toliko toga pokazati, no neka cemo mjesta ostaviti za sljedeci put kad dodjemo s Borutom.

Ako planirate posjetiti Beč s djecom, nabrojat cu neka od nasih najdrazih mjesta.

Nalazi se u samom srcu grada i vjerojatno je prvo mjesto na koje dolaze turisti po dolasku u Beč. Trgom, koji je uvijek pun ljudi i kočija, dominira Katedrala svetog Stjepana, a ondje cete naci i brojne restorane, kafice i ulice prepune trgovina poput Graben i Kärtner. Kad dodjemo na trg, obicno pozdravimo predivne konje (Kiara to najvise voli), setamo, upalimo svijecu u katedrali ili odemo u kupovinu.

Najbolja kava u gradu i najbolje mjestu ako, kao i ja, volite promatrati prolaznike i upijati energiju grada. No ovo nije tek kafic. Ovo je “najpoznatije austrijsko okupljaliste gurmana” koje se sastoji od divno uredjenog supermarketa u kojem mozete naci na tisuce delicija iz cijelog svijeta, te restorana na trecem katu, omiljenog bogatim Bečanima. Ako zelite kupiti suvenire, a niste ludi za magneticima i salicama s likom Mozarta, predlazem da ovamo dodjete kupiti bečku kavu, čokoladu ili čaj za svoje najdraze.

Najljepsi i nama najdrazi park u Beču. Svaki dan dolazimo ovamo, jer Kiara voli hraniti patkice u jezeru i igrati se s ostalom djecom. Ja pak uzivam u divnom okruzenju, cvijecu, stablima, zlatnom kipu Johanna Straussa ili jednostavno sjedim na klupi i pijem kavu koja se moze kupiti na preslatkom standu u samom parku.

Sredisnja i najpoznatiji bečka trznica. Kao i svaka druga, ova je trznica prepuna ljudi, bučna, sarena, zanimljiva i divna, no za razliku od ostalih, ova je čista i vrlo popularna medju mladim ljudima. Zato se nemojte iznenaditi ako u vrijeme vikenda ovdje zateknete DJ-a koji zabavlja prolaznike. Iz pouzdanih izvora znam da ovdje ima i restorana koji nude raznovrsnu i ukusnu hranu, pa ih svakako isprobajte.

Dvorac Belvedere sastoji se od dvije palače sagradjene u 18. stoljecu i ogromnog vrta. Savrseno mjesto za posjet s djecom koja mogu trčkarati vrtom, igrati se skrivača ili se pak diviti fontanama i predivnim kipovima. No pravi dragulji nalaze se u Gornjoj palači. Riječ je o djelima nekih od najslavnijih slikara svih vremena, poput Moneta, van Gogha, Klimta (“Poljubac” svakako vrijedi vidjeti) i Kokoschke.

Ovo je jedno od onih mjesta koja te svojom ljepotom ostave bez riječi i natjeraju ti suze na oči. Upravo to mi se dogodilo kad sam bila ondje prije nekoliko dana. Osjetila sam neopisivu poniznost i zahvalnost sto se nalazim na tom mjestu, sto gledam tu ljepotu i predivne palace oko Trga, sto taj trenutak mogu podijeliti sa svojom kceri… Kad shvatis da ne postoje male stvari i kad zivis u trenutku, ovakvi te prizori duboko dirnu… Trg Marije Terezije je sjajno pozicioniran jer je okruzen Prirodoslovnim muzejem  i Muzejem povijesti umjetnosti, a odavde mozete obici čitavu Muzejsku četvrt. Takodjer, u blizini su Goetheov i Mozartov kip.

Najbolji bečki odrezak na svijetu. Obavezno rezervirajte stol nekoliko dana unaprijed i kao prilog narucite salatu od krumpira. Nema na čemu.

Nisam sigurna sto mi se vise svidja: hrana, ambijent ili uredjenje samog prostora. Kad vidim mlade ljude kako se ondje druze nedjeljom ujutro, prijateljice koje se sastaju na brunchu ili pak mlade roditelje kako s djecom uzivaju u hrani… Mjesta poput ovog čine me sretnom. Ströck je divno mjesto koje svakako vrijedi doci vidjeti. Nedavno sam bila ondje i kusala sam veganski dorucak koji me potpuno bacio s nogu. Obavezno ga kusajte, čak i ako niste vegan.

Ovo je mjesto na kojem mozete kusati Sacher tortu spravljenu po originalnom receptu. Vrlo je otmjeno, prepuno i dosta skupo, ali vrijedno svakog centa. Pa ne mozete doci u Beč, a da ne kusate najpoznatiju tortu na svijetu!

Super glazba i pice. Uvijek je puno, posebno vikendom.

WHEN YOU’RE FEELING LIKE A TREE

When I was 18, I got depressed and for more than 10 years I never really got better. For more than 10 years almost every day was a battle with myself. In the morning, I would wake up and lay in bed fearing the day. During the day, I would walk around carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. There were no days, weekends, parties, holidays, vacations that I truly enjoyed and I can’t remember one single moment when I was utterly happy, relaxed and carefree. Luckily, I have no experience with addictions, self-harm or eating disorders which are very common, but I do have experience with bad choices, fake friendships and desperate attempts to be accepted and loved. I guess I was very sensitive, extremely insecure and scared of failure and loneliness. Of being rejected. Of being not enough.

When I hit rock bottom, I decided to get help because deep inside I knew that life was more than that. Since then, I have made tremendous progress, practicing self-love, becoming more self-aware and just the happy, grateful and positive person that I have always wanted to be. Do you know that 121 million people in the world currently suffer from some sort of depression? Unfortunately, very few people talk about it, but I will. Knowing that hundreds of millions of people are in a dark and lonely place where I once was, makes me want to share my story on how I battled depression almost completely by myself and hopefully help someone.

Although I haven’t been depressed for a few years now, just like everybody, I have my cloudy days when I feel unmotivated, when I don’t love myself enough and when I forget to count my blessings. A while ago I read an interesting saying: “If you’re not happy where you are, move. You’re not a tree.” Well, sometimes life gets in the way and we all feel like a tree. On a scale of emotions, hopelessness would be the lowest and most negative one. It is also an emotion I am very familiar with so I have a lot of tips on how to deal with it that I want to share with you today. If you practice some of them regularly or preferably every day, not only when you’re feeling down, very soon you will start feeling better and those cloudy days will become shorter and rarer.

  • TAKE A BATH

Water is unbelievably healing. It helps clear your thoughts and wash off unwanted emotions. I always take a bath when I’m  feeling down, I put on some music, light candles and just enjoy peace and quiet for half an hour.

  • BE ACTIVE

I don’t need to tell you that physical activity lifts up your mood and makes you feel good about yourself. You don’t have to run a marathon. A simple walk in the park or playing with your kids outside will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Fresh air and nature do wonders for our souls and the worst thing you can do is sit on the couch. When you’re feeling the worst, just put on those shoes and get outside. I promise, you will feel so much better!

  • PRACTICE MINDFULNESS

This is so important and I’m happy that more and more people are aware of it. You can pray, meditate, listen to classical music or just stare through the window, but spending 10 minutes a day alone in silence can literally change your life. You will feel more relaxed, focused, your thoughts will be clearer and more positive, and you will even sleep better. But don’t wait for rainy days. Start practicing mindfulness today and make time for it. I meditate and pray every day, no matter how tired or busy I am.  I just can’t imagine my day without it and I think this was the crucial element in battling depression.

  • NOURISH YOUR BODY AND SOUL

Although a lot of people reach for “comfort food” like ice-cream, Nutella or a burger when they are feeling down, I don’t really think sugary and greasy food made anybody feel better. Only more depressed, fatter and sicker. That’s why it’s very important to watch our diet and make sure to eat healthy, nutritious food like fruit salads, fresh vegetables and soups. It will help you feel and look better, healthier and energised.

  • UNPLUG

Get off social media for a day or two, because it can only make you more depressed or anxious. Spend time reading, jogging or working around the house instead. If you have a garden, even better! I love reading or watching inspirational videos or listening to podcasts. I have just started “The 5 AM Miracle with Jeff Sanders” and I’m really liking it so far. I’ve noticed that stress relieving colouring books are very popular right now so I think I’ll get one of those too.

  • CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY

When I’m feeling down, I prefer being alone or with people who lift me up. Try to avoid people who are negative or drain your energy. Spending time with kids, for example, is always a good idea. I love to take my daughter to the park, breathe fresh air and watch her admire trees, rocks, flowers and birds – everything we take for granted too often. She reminds me to always be grateful and to stop and smell the roses

  • BE KIND TO YOURSELF

So you’re having a bad day. You’ve stayed in bed all day, you didn’t go to work, you fed your kids pizza and you haven’t even showered. You may have even smoked that just-in-case cigarette you were keeping in the kitchen drawer since New Year’s when you stopped smoking. So what? It’s just a bad day and it happens to everybody. It’s not the end of the world. Tomorrow will be better. You will be better, know better and do better.

  • IF NOTHING IS WORKING…

Sit down, take a piece of paper and write down what kind of person you want to be, what you need to do and what habits you need to form in order to become that person. For example, if you want to learn a new language, find language schools near you or a private teacher. Make a schedule and decide how much time a week you are ready to dedicate to learning it. If you want to lose weight, print out a healthy meal plan and go grocery shopping. Make a fitness plan or start by introducing small, healthy habits, like walking to work or taking stairs. The most important thing is to set small goals for every week. Think about where you will be in a year, but go step by step. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, because you will only feel worse if you fail. And write everything down. When I see my goals written on a piece of paper, I take them more seriously and motivate myself more easily.

Kad sam imala 18 godina, pala sam u depresiju i vise od 10 godina nisam iz nje izasla. Vise od 10 godina svakog sam dana vodila borbu sama sa sobom. Ujutro bih se probudila i bojala se ustati iz kreveta strepeci od onoga sto mi donosi dan. Danju bih hodala s ogromnim teretom na ledjima, imala sam osjecaj kao da nosim probleme cijelog svijeta na ramenima. Nije bilo dana, vikenda, zabave, blagdana ili odmora u kojima sam uzivala. Zapravo, ne sjecam se nijednog trenutka u kojem sam bila istinski sretna, opustena i bezbrizna. Srecom, nikada nisam imala problema s ovisnoscu, samoozljedjivanjem i poremecajima prehrane koji su vrlo cesti kod depresivnih osoba. Medjutim, imala sam problema s losim odlukama, laznim prijateljstvima i ocajnim nastojanjima da budem voljena i prihvacena. Vjerojatno sam bila previse osjetljiva i nesigurna te sam se bojala neuspjeha i usamljenosti. Napustanja i odbijanja. Osjecaja manje vrijednosti.

Kad sam dotaknula dno, odlucila sam potraziti pomoc, jer nesto mi je govorilo da zivot nije zamisljen kao tuzno, mracno i hladno mjesto, nego kao slavlje, igra i blagostanje. Otad sam mnogo napredovala, pocela voljeti sebe, postala svjesnija, sretnija, zahvalnija i pozitivnija osoba kakva sam oduvijek htjela biti. Znate li da u ovom trenutku oko 120 milijuna ljudi pati od nekog oblika depresije? Nazalost, malo njih govori o tome, ali ja hocu. Spoznaja da stotine milijuna osoba cuci u mraku, kao sto sam ja nekad, ne dopusta mi da mirno sjedim i nista ne poduzimam. Kroz seriju postova ispricat cu svoju pricu i objasniti kako sam potpuno sama pobijedila depresiju, te na taj nacin, nadam se, pomoci nekima koji mozda misle da nema izlaza.

Iako je depresija daleko iza mene, kao i svi drugih ljudi, i ja imam lose dane kad se osjecam nemotiviranom, kad zaboravim voljeti sebe i zahvaljivati na svim blagoslovima. Nedavno sam procitala zgodan citat: “Ako nisi zadovoljan gdje se trenutno nalazis, pokreni se! Nisi stablo!” Iako zvuci vrlo jednostavno, znam da se ponekad svi osjecamo poput stabla. Ukopano i bespomocno. Kad bismo emocije poslagali po nekoj skali, bespomocnost bi kao najnegativnija emocija bila na samom dnu. Meni je jako poznata, jer sam se previse puta osjecala poput stabla, poput nijemog, bespomocnog promatraca, nedovoljno jakog da se pomakne s mjesta. Danas cu s vama podijeliti metode koje svakodnevno prakticiram i zahvaljujuci kojima su dani kad se osjecam kao stablo vrlo rijetki i kratki. Svakako vam savjetujem da ih prakticirate svaki dan, ne samo za losih dana, i obecajem vam, osjecat cete se puno bolje.

  • OKUPAJTE SE

Voda ima nevjerojatnu moc. Ispire negativne emocije i prociscava misli. Kad se ne osjecam najbolje, napravim si toplu kupku, pustim glazbu, zapalim svijece i pola sata uzivam u miru.

  • BUDITE AKTIVNI

Vjerojatno svatko od nas zna da fizicka aktivnost povoljno utjece na raspolozenje i samopouzdanje. I za to se ne trebamo satima znojiti u teretani ili trcati maraton. Kratka setnja u parku ili igra s djecom na zraku bit ce dovoljna da se osjecamo bolje. Svjezi zrak i priroda doista cine cuda i najgore sto mozete uciniti za svoje zdravlje i raspolozenje je sjediti pred TV-om. Kad se osjecate najgore, obujte cipele i izadjite: dan ce vam odmah biti puno bolji.

  • BUDITE SVJESNI

Ovaj je dio nevjerojatno vazan i sretna sam sto sve vise ljudi to razumije. Nije bitno hocete li moliti, meditirati, slusati Mozarta ili jednostavno buljiti kroz prozor, ali 10 minuta na dan provedenih u tisini i samoci promijenit ce vam zivot. Bit cete opusteniji, usredotoceniji, misli ce vam biti jasnije i pozitivnije, a i spavat cete bolje. Ali nemojte cekati lose dane. Vec danas nadjite 10 minuta i provedite ih u tisini koncentrirajuci se na disanje i otpustajuci misli. Ja svaki dan meditiram i molim, neovisno o tome koliko sam zauzeta ili umorna. Ne mogu zamisliti dan bez toga i sigurna sam da je to bio najvazniji element u mojoj borbi protiv depresije.

  • NAHRANITE DUSU I TIJELO

Na kraju loseg i stresnog dana, ljudi vecinom posezu za slatkom i masnom hranom poput sladoleda, Nutelle i hamburgera misleci da ce se tako opustiti i osjecati bolje. A na kraju se osjecaju jos gore, bolesnije i deblje. Prehrana je nevjerojatno vazna i zato je svakako preporucljivo jesti zdravu hranu poput vocnih salata, svjezeg povrca i toplih juha. Osjecat cete se i izgledati bolje i zdravije te biti puni energije.

  • ISKOPCAJTE SE

Na dan, dva zaboravite na vijesti i drustvene mreze. Zbog njih cete se osjecati samo jos gore. Umjesto toga citajte, trcite ili radite nesto po kuci. Ako imate vrt, jos bolje! Ja volim citati ili gledati inspirativne videe ili slusati podcaste. Bas sam pocela slusati “The 5 AM Miracle with Jeff Sanders” i doista mi se svidja. Znam da su trenutno popularne bojanke za odrasle koje djeluju relaksirajuce i oslobadjajuce i mislim da cu ih svakako nabaviti.

  • BIRAJTE DRUSTVO

Kad se osjecam lose, najvise volim biti sama ili s ljudima koji me pune pozitivnom energijom. Izbjegavajte negativne ljude koji se stalno na nesto zale i pritom vam crpe energiju. Djeca su izvrsno drustvo. Ja obozavam ici u park sa svojom kceri, boraviti na svjezem zraku i promatrati je kako se svemu divi: drvecu, kamenju, cvijecu i pticama. Ponekad je promatram kako jede, kako prinosi hranu ustima, polako zvace, potpuno uronjena u trenutak, dozivljaj, okus i miris. Djeca nas podsjecaju da budem zahvalni na svemu sto nas okruzuje i uzivamo u trenutku.

  • BUDITE BLAGI PREMA SEBI

Pa dobro, imate los dan. Cijeli ste dan u krevetu, niste otisli na posao, nije vam se dalo kuhati pa ste djeci narucili pizzu. Pa sto? Niste se ni otusirali, ali ste popusili onu cigaretu koju ste od Nove godine, kad ste prestali pusiti, cuvali u ladici za svaki slucaj. Da i? To je samo jedan los dan koji koji se svima dogadja. Sutra ce biti bolje. Vi cete se osjecati bolje, bit cete pametniji i bolji nego danas.

  • AKO BAS NISTA NE POMAZE

Sjednite za stol, uzmite komad papira i razmislite kakva osoba zelite biti te sto morate uciniti da biste to postali. Na primjer, ako zelite nauciti novi strani jezik, nadjite skole stranih jezika i privatne ucitelje u svojoj blizini. Odlucite koliko ste vremena tjedno spremni posvetiti ucenju jezika i napravite raspored. Ili recimo da zelite smrsaviti. Sastavite plan prehrane i nabavite zdrave namirnice. Napravite plan treninga ili pak od danas pocnite uvoditi male promjene koje ce puno znaciti, poput pjesacenja na posao ili izbjegavanja lifta. Odredite male ciljeve po tjednima. Imajte u mislima gdje cete biti za godinu dana, ali idite korak po korak. Nemojte si stvarati veliki pritisak, jer time povecavate mogucnost za neuspjeh. I obavezno sve zapisujte. Kod mene to uvijek pali, jer kad vidim ciljeve na papiru, shvacam ih ozbiljnije i lakse se posvecujem ostvarenju istih.
